Who-is? (About)

Hiya!

There were many thoughts vying for my attention as to what my salutation should be to begin a bio page:

- Howdy (I hail originally from a "country" town in Northern California nestled at the base of the Sierra Mountains.)

- How goes it? (A throw-back to the '60s/'70s)

- What's shakin'? (Ditto above.)

- Hi there! (Vintage standard response: "Wish I was" [high, that is--um, '70s again].)

But I settled on "Hiya"--which is my own lazy hybrid of "Hi you!"

I am published ... nearly twenty years of magazine articles, numerous freelance corporate projects, and frequent contributions to others' books, in addition to my own.

Penchant for Penning is also the name of my website, where you can learn more about me than you likely ever want to know. However, if you're an author or small business owner, you may find it interesting and helpful. Of course, like most websites--and life--it's a continuously changing landscape, so feel free to stroll through frequently.

But to know the real me, you would need to bop over to my pet project: Blast from Your Past!

It took nearly my whole life to understand that my ultimate purpose is to help others leave a legacy--which in turn, is my legacy, as well.

I write about Rock & Roll Radio DJs from the Golden Era of Rock Radio: 1954 ~ 1979. Why? Because I can. (Heehee.) Just kidding. Because all but the most well known of those once-ubiquitous radio celebs are leaving us for Rock & Roll Heaven, without ever telling the tales of their wild-and-crazy antics behind the microphone.

I was fortunate to interview a handful of star DJs like Cousin Brucie (East Coast), Shotgun Tom Kelly (West Coast), Dr. Don Rose's son, Jay (both coasts), Joey Reynolds (NY) and more.

I also spoke with the oft-forgotten DJ who produced The Kingsmen's popular version of "Louie Louie" (Ken Chase, aka Mike Korgan), and a DJ who conducted an in-studio interview in the nude! (William F. Williams--again, of course, the '70s! lol)

For the first two books, I interviewed more than forty pioneering Rock Radio DJs, and members of three vintage bands. Their stories are fun, fascinating, and telling them at our age--fearless. If you're 50+ you'll enjoy the romp down Memory Lane. If you're a young'un, you'll hoot-and-holler at the true tales of Sex, Drugs and Rock & Roll!

Check out the first book in this energetic series, Blast from Your Past! Rock & Roll Radio DJs: the First Five Years 1954-1959 in print and ebook on Amazon; or for an author-signed print edition, click here. Book 2, 1954-1979 coming soon!
